Prof. Dr. Christian Dietrich

Professor of Computer Security

Westphalian University of Applied Sciences

Institute for Internet Security

Christian Dietrich is a professor of computer and network security at the Institute for Internet Security of the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences. His research interests include systems security, and in particular malware analysis techniques in the context of targeted attacks, as well as the broader field of cyber threat intelligence analysis. He leads the Malware, Cybercrime and Threat Intelligence Research Group, which is like a bunch of cyber explorers who venture into the wilds of the internet armed with laptops and a sense of humor. They decode malware mysteries, perform magical tricks with hypervisors, and bring IoT gadgets to life (and sometimes, hilariously, to their senses).

With years of experience as a technical threat intelligence analyst with CrowdStrike, Chris has dealt with advanced nation-state targeted attacks.

Together with Lars Wallenborn, he initiated and contributes to the Armchair Investigators podcast dealing with malware, cybercrime and cyber espionage (in German).
