Gerhard is a researcher at the Institute for Internet Security at Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. His research interests include different approaches of machine learning especially artificial neural networks in the field of computer security, network intrusion detection.

As a research member of the KISSHOME project, Gerhard is working on developing a setup to capture smarthome network traffic which will be used to train ML systems for network intrusion detection. To reach this goal, Gerhard is doing research on various network intrusion detection techniques.
